DRIVING A 142% INCREASE IN ROAS FOR A FUNCTIONAL WELLNESS DRINKS BRAND

AIn the fast-growing functional health and wellness space, standing out on Meta requires more than good branding, it also requires creatives that are built around why different customers actually buy.

I partnered with a leading functional wellness drinks brand as their Creative Strategist to introduce a structured, insight-led creative system, working closely with their marketing team to turn customer understanding into scalable ad performance.

The Challenge

The brand had strong products, a loyal customer base, and thousands of five-star reviews, but their paid social creative wasn't built to capitalise on any of it. Creative output lacked clear audience segmentation, with ads speaking to a single generic customer rather than the distinct motivations that drove different people to buy.

There was no consistent iteration process and no defined testing framework. Winning ads weren't being systematically improved upon, and new concepts were being produced without a structured way to learn from what had come before. This limited both performance and the learnings the brand could carry forward into future campaigns.

The challenge was to replace guesswork with a repeatable creative system: one built on real customer insight, capable of driving measurable performance improvements at scale.

The Solution

To achieve this, I implemented an insight-led creative strategy focused on persona development, structured testing, and creative diversification.

  1. Review Mining & Persona Development: I analysed thousands of customer reviews to uncover the real reasons people bought, from daily energy and immunity support to gut health and replacing their morning coffee. From this research, I built a full persona framework capturing the distinct pain points, motivations, and emotional triggers behind each buying decision. These insights became the foundation of the entire creative system.

  2. Persona-Led Creative Briefs: Every concept, hook, and line of copy was mapped to a specific persona and their motivations. Rather than one message broadcast to everyone, creative was built to speak directly to each audience segment, addressing the specific outcome they were seeking, in language drawn from their own reviews.

  3. Creative Diversification: I diversified output across UGC, static, and founder-led formats, ensuring each persona could be reached with the tone, style, and message that resonated most strongly with them. This variety also gave Meta's delivery system more to optimise with, reducing fatigue and improving efficiency.

  4. Structured Testing & Feedback Loop: I introduced a defined testing framework with a clear performance-to-insight feedback loop. Every round of testing fed learnings into the next, winning angles were iterated on systematically rather than replaced, and underperformers generated insights rather than being quietly dropped.

The Results

The new creative system delivered significant, measurable improvements in performance:

  • 20% increase in CTR

  • 142% increase in ROAS

Creative efficiency improved substantially, enabling stronger engagement and scalable performance across campaigns. Beyond the headline numbers, the brand now has a persona-led creative system that gives their team a repeatable framework for producing and testing creative built around why their customers actually buy, a foundation for ongoing performance growth, not just a one-off win.
